Ephesus, one of the greatest ancient sites in the world today, is an outstanding stop in our excursion. You will be visiting sites in Ephesus like Odeon which used to be a musical hall, State and Commercial Agoras, Library of Celsus which used to be the third biggest library in the ancient world by having 12.000 books and scrolls. You will also see Grand Theater of Ephesus where Paul and many others preached and which has capacity of 24.000 people, Temple of Hadrian (legendary Emperor Hadrian visited old Ephesus once), Latrines (also know as ‘’toilets) which show us a glimpse of daily life in Ancient Ephesus.
Today temple does not have a lot left from its old beauty. Temple was destroyed by ‘’Herosdotus’’ in fourth century B.C. and could never regain its glory. A single column left from the temple still gives us an idea about its original look.
The richest of the Ephesians used to live in the center of the city. Today seven of the old Roman villas are still visible and open for your visit. We will be visiting Terrace Houses in Ephesus during our walk through in Ephesus. Terrace Houses show some of the best works of ancient frescos and mosaics.
House of Virgin Mary stands five minutes away from Ephesus Ancient City. House was discovered thanks to revelations of a German Nun, ‘’Catherine Emerich’’. House remains as one of the most important Christian Shrines in Turkey.
Hierapolis Ancient City still has one of the greatest Roman graveyards in it. Graveyard (a.k.a. Necropolis) has a perfect preservation rate. City’s theater and wide marble streets are ‘’must seens’’ in Turkey
No doubt, White Terraces are the most famous spot of Hierapolis Ancient City. These formations are called travertines and made out of calsium deposits coming out of the fault lines in Pamukkale area.
